Manaiakalani Movie - Respecting Dogs.

Even if you do not have a dog of your own, it is important to know and teach others about dogs and correct behaviour around them.

It is for our own safety and to make sure that we do not grow up afraid of dogs.

In this movie, Room 5 will show some of the ways how we can show respect to the dogs.

Straw House, Wooden House or Brick House!

This term our Inquiry topic is Buildings. To immerse our learners into different kinds of buildings we as junior syndicate decided to build Straw Houses, Wooden Houses, and Brick Houses. A connection was made to the story "The Three Little Pigs". Year 1, 2 and 3 learners were divided into 3 groups and each morning from 9.15 - 12.30pm they stayed with the allocated teachers so they can have the experience of building 3 different houses each morning. Room 1 learners were building on Straw Houses, Room 4 learners were building Wooden Houses and Room 5 learners were building the Brick Houses.

Day 1 in Room 5, we had few challenges and obstacles however by day 3 we became experts.

Below are 3 different videos of our Brick Houses done by 3 different groups.

The learners had loads of fun building the brick houses in room, cutting and painting the roofs and some even placed the 3 little pigs in their houses. It was a very productive morning.

Road Safety Day 3

Today we had another fun day with Constable Jude. Today she taught us that if we are below 148cm in height, we have to continue using the booster seat. That means we have to be at least 7 years old. If for some reasons parents want to continue using the booster seat then they can.

She also gave us a height measuring chart and she showed us how to use the chart as well. We even learned how to put the car seat belts on.

Then it was the best time of the day where she took us to her police car. She brought some kids size police uniforms. She all had a turn to sit in her police car and wear the uniform. It was fun. She also picked few kids to play the siren in her car. We had lots of fun and constable agreed to come back in few weeks time and talk about all the things she carries around her waist.

Road Safety with Constable Jude

Today Constable Jude came to our class and she spoke to us about how we can be safe on the road. After discussing the topic she took us to the school courts area and got us to practice crossing the road.

Get Set Go

Today we had Get Set Go instructors at our school. Their names were Alan and Ellie. They taught us some of the different ways how we can balance ourselves. We also used soft toys to balance on ourselves and played a game called Frog and Flies. We had lots of fun learning about Balancing.
