Matariki 2015



On Matariki day you have go to sleep early and
wake up early and get in the car to go to the  
      beach and light the fire to welcome the 7
stars. Some people think Matariki is  the home
for 7 gods in the sky. Maori people have a
bonfire because it is cold and dark in the
morning. They sing sad songs. They look in the
bonfire. At Matariki you can go to the house
and you have to pray to god and prayers go up
and the wishes come down.

Maori people celebrate Matariki and they make a bonfire because it was cold and they cooked food for them It was dark. In the morning they sang sad song. People celebrate Matariki once a year in the month of June in winter.

Maori people celebrate at the beach. Some celebrate outside of their house or a relatives house. It is a celebration of the Maori New Year.

Matariki is something special for maori people because they think of their loved ones that have passed on.

Matariki is a celebration of the Maori New Year. Maori people celebrate Matariki. They sometimes celebrate at the beach. Maori people go to sleep so they can get up early to see the Matariki stars. Maori people sing sad songs for the people that have died. Some people believe that the 7 stars are seven houses of the gods and when people die their spirits go there.
Some believe Tane broke the star because he was jealous and the star broke into 7 pieces. Maori people make bonfires and cook food for the celebration in the middle of June.
Maori people celebrate Matariki at relatives houses. Some maori people believe that a man was crying and he chucked his 7 tears into the sky then the stars become stars. They called the stars Matariki

Matariki is celebrated by the maori people in
June. It is their Maori New Year. The Matariki
group of stars has other names as well one of
it’s names is The 7 Sisters in the sky. Matariki
is the name of the biggest star. Matariki is
celebrated at the end of June. The maoris celebrate Matariki.The old stories also tell us 
that when the stars shine brightly the year will bwe warm and good for growing crops. There
will be plenty of seafood to gather. Plants will
grow tall and strong.

They also celebrate Matariki at there house or relatives house. They use torches. They celebrate Matariki in the middle of June. They lie on the ground and watch the 7 stars.

 have died like auntys and uncles and family.

Some people believe that Tane was jealous of
the star and he smashed it. The maoris cook
food in the bonfire. The Matariki stars appear
in the middle of  June. Some people believe that
a man was crying then he threw his tears into
the sky. They say that those 7 stars became the
Matariki stars.

Matariki is a maori celebrations for maoris.
The maori people have to go to sleep early because they are going to see the 7 stars really early in the morning when it is still dark.

The Matariki stars disappear in the middle of May and appear in the middle of June. The maori people can only see the 7 stars early in the morning. Some people believe Tane broke the star because he was very jealous. It broke into 7 pieces and it was still shining in his eyes.

Another name for the 7 stars are the 7 sisters. Maori people celebrate Matariki because it is a happy and is their New Year.

Maori people sing sad songs for the people that have died and it is really sad. The Maoris celebrate the Maori New Year. It is really special. People believe there is a waka in the sky and Tane got the star and broke it into 7 pieces.

Some believe they are Gods 7 houses when people die they go back to gods 7 houses. People love Matariki and they can celebrate at their homes. Matarik is a really special time and everyone celebrates Matatriki.

The maori people wake up early in the morning and they go to the beach and at the beach they have a bonfire and they have food, drinks and fruit.

Another reason why they celebrate Matariki is because people believe that there are 7 houses of god and people die their spirits go there. The maori people go to sleep early so they can wake up in the early morning to see the Matariki stars.

sing a song to the people who have died. The

cook kumara and the eat food. At home they
are asleep in the room and in the morning they
wake up early to look at the Matariki stars.

Mum and Nan sing sad songs for the people
who have died. They go to the beach to see the 7
stars of Matariki. They light a bonfire and have
a feed and look at the stars then they go home.

Some  people believe that the 7 stars are the 7 sisters or the 7 houses of god. When someone in the family dies it is believed that their spirits will go to one of the 7 houses.
